Physics DATABASES

PRIMARY DATABASES

Compendex

(1884-)
Compendex® is the most comprehensive interdisciplinary engineering database in the world with almost 7.5 million records referencing 5,000 engineering journals and conference materials dating from 1969. The database is updated weekly. This database is a new version of ENGI.

Engineering Index (ENGI)

(1970-)
The ENGI database has been replaced by Compendex. The content is the same, but is updated on a more frequent basis. In addition, links to full-text of articles and papers can be found by clicking on the SFX link or on the full-text link.

INSPEC (INSP)

(1884-)
Over 3,500 scientific and technical journals and some 1,500 conference proceedings, as well as numerous books, reports and dissertations in the areas of physics, electrical engineering, electronics, communications, control engineering, computers and computing, manufacturing and production engineering, and information technology . Beginning fall 2003, the INSPEC database is now available with a new search engine and includes links to full-text through the SFX link or the full-text button.

SciFinder Scholar

(See description)
SciFinder Scholar is a proprietary software that provides web access to Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) databases using client / server technology. Accessible CAS databases are Caplus/CHEMICAL ABSTRACTS ( 1907-), CAS REGISTRY (chemical names and structures, 1957- ), CASREACT (single and multi-step reactions, 1840- ), CHEMCATS (commercially available chemicals, 1997-), CHEMLIST (regulatory information, 1979-), MEDLINE (1951-).

Web of Science from ISI

(1945-)
The Web of Science provides web access to three ISI databases: Science Citation Index Expanded (1945-), Social Sciences Citation Index (1956-), and Arts & Humanities Search (1975-). Web of Science allows access to research literature through standard access points (author, title, subject) and to cited references (footnotes, bibliography) published with a scholarly paper.
